Nippon, Takeshi Uematsu & Mitsutomo Kawamura by Benjamin Alexander Huseby for Fantastic Man Spring 2013.
The young men in this story were born and raised in modern Tokyo, in the digital age. They long for a return to tradition — to a lifestyle based on the seven ancient Japanese elements of “shibusa”: simplicity, implicity, modesty, silence, naturalness, everydayness and imperfection. In the clothes they wear for their communal activities they eschew all colour in favour of the starkness of black and white — a combination traditionally associated with solemn duty and formality. Traditional garments like the joudogi and the kimono are mixed with contemporary pieces, creating a layering that brings out the precise complexity of Japanese aesthetics.

“What Schizophrenia Sounds Like”For the last couple of weeks I have been looking up information about the mental illness, schizophrenia for a research project for my psychology class. During my research I found an interesting project that some scientists had put together called, “What Schizophrenia Sounds Like.” After interviewing many people with this illness the scientists compiled a short clip of what a schizophrenic might hear during an episode, or just day to day.
This is both fascinating and terrifying.
